Position Overview

The Director of Store Operations will partner closely with ownership to provide strategic and operational leadership across two retail locations. This role oversees Store Managers and their salaried department leaders, with accountability for operational performance, financial results, merchandising standards, and team development.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Planning & Financial Performance

  • Recommend and implement initiatives to improve store operations, sales, and profitability
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, and overall financial performance, including full P&L responsibility
  • Establish and maintain standards for cost control, quality, shrink, safety, and compliance
  • Drive results across safety, service, quality, and cost metrics

Sales & Merchandising

  • Develop and execute merchandising strategies to support business growth
  • Ensure consistent, high-level customer experiences across both locations
  • Partner with leadership to enhance policies, practices, and performance standards

Process Improvement & Operations

  • Identify opportunities to improve operational efficiency and customer satisfaction
  • Monitor department and store performance, providing coaching and guidance as needed
  • Lead continuous improvement initiatives across store operations

Employee Relations & Leadership

  • Lead, mentor, and develop Store Managers and department leadership teams
  • Foster a positive, communicative, and accountable work environment
  • Partner on staffing, training, development, succession planning, and compliance

Problem Resolution & Compliance

  • Effectively resolve operational, customer service, and employee-related issues
  • Ensure compliance with legal, safety, and company policies
  • Serve as a trusted resource for Store Managers and leadership decision-making

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 10-15 years of progressive, multi-unit grocery or specialty retail leadership experience
  • Demonstrated success leading high-end or premium retail environments
  • Strong financial and business acumen, including P&L ownership, budgeting, and forecasting
  • Proven ability to lead, coach, and retain high-performing teams
  • Track record of success in merchandising, operations, and process improvement
  • Excellent communication, problem-solving, and conflict-resolution skills
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general business systems
