EHS Engineer

Location: Carlsbad, CA 92008

Hours: Monday - Friday 8:00am - 5:00pm

Pay: $37 - $50/hr DOE

Duration: 3-6 month contract, with the possibility of going permanent based on performance and business needs

We are seeking an Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) Engineer to support daily operations and serve as the on-site safety point of contact while the EHS team is being rebuilt. This role is ideal for a mid-level professional with strong safety, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance experience who can

triage day-to-day safety needs and oversee EHS programs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as the on-site EHS lead, ensuring compliance with safety and regulatory protocols
  • Oversee hazardous waste management processes (not hands-on handling) and coordinate with vendors for disposal
  • Respond to and manage safety incidents (e.g., slips, trips, falls), ensuring proper corrective actions and reporting
  • Support and maintain OSHA recordkeeping and incident reporting (OSHA 300 Log, WC injury data, global incident reports)
  • Conduct routine safety walkthroughs, inspections, and corrective action follow-ups
  • Manage and maintain EHS documentation, permits, and digital systems/applications
  • Coordinate emergency preparedness initiatives, including drills, training, and emergency assembly box maintenance
  • Assist with ergonomic assessments, safety training coordination, and new hire orientations
  • Collaborate with vendors for lab equipment inspections, calibrations, and certifications
  • Provide support for radiation/laser safety (regulatory coverage already in place at NY site)
  • Partner with leadership as the EHS team scales (Engineer, Manager, Sr. Manager)

Qualifications:

  • Experience in EHS, with a focus on safety programs, risk mitigation, and regulatory compliance
  • Familiarity with hazardous waste oversight, OSHA recordkeeping, and emergency preparedness
  • Strong problem-solving skills and ability to respond quickly to safety-related events
  • EHS certifications (CSP or similar) are a plus, but not required
