Job Summary:
The Shipping & Receiving Lead is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the shipping and receiving department within a manufacturing environment. This role ensures accurate and timely handling of incoming and outgoing materials, proper documentation, compliance with safety standards, and coordination with production, inventory, and logistics teams. The Lead also supervises a team of shipping/receiving clerks and warehouse staff to ensure smooth, efficient workflow.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and coordinate all shipping and receiving activities, ensuring accuracy and timeliness
- Supervise, train, and support shipping and warehouse staff to meet departmental goals
- Verify incoming shipments for accuracy, quality, and proper documentation (packing slips, BOLs, invoices, etc.)
- Prepare and inspect outgoing shipments to ensure proper packaging, labeling, and compliance with customer and carrier requirements
- Maintain shipping and receiving records in ERP or inventory management systems
- Coordinate with carriers, schedule pickups and deliveries, and resolve issues with damaged or missing items
- Ensure warehouse and dock areas are organized, clean, and compliant with safety and operational standards
- Collaborate with production, inventory control, and purchasing departments to ensure materials are moved and tracked properly
- Assist with cycle counts and physical inventory audits
- Identify and implement process improvements to increase efficiency and accuracy
Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required; associate degree or technical training preferred
- 3+ years of experience in shipping/receiving or warehouse operations, preferably in manufacturing
- 1+ years of supervisory or lead experience
- Proficient with inventory software, shipping systems, and Microsoft Office (especially Excel)
- Strong understanding of logistics, packaging, and freight procedures (LTL, FTL, international shipping)
- Forklift certification preferred
- Excellent organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and work in a fast-paced warehouse environment
