Location: Sacramento, CA (Hybrid Schedule)
Salary: 140k to 180k

About the Role:
We're seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Benefits & Wellness to lead the development, administration, and continuous evolution of our employee benefits programs. This is a high-impact leadership role where you'll shape the overall benefits strategy, drive wellness engagement, and ensure compliance with federal and state regulations.

The Director will collaborate with senior leaders, vendors, and cross-functional teams to deliver a benefits experience that enhances employee satisfaction and supports organizational goals. You will also lead a team of professionals focused on providing exceptional support to our workforce of 1,000+ employees.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the strategy, design, and execution of health, wellness, retirement, and leave programs

  • Serve as the internal thought leader for benefits innovation, cost management, and compliance

  • Manage vendor relationships, renewals, and negotiations to optimize service and financial outcomes

  • Champion employee education around benefits and wellness offerings through engaging communication and events

  • Oversee open enrollment, benefits audits, and internal reporting

  • Ensure compliance with all applicable laws and regulations, including ACA, HIPAA, ERISA, FMLA, and ADA

  • Provide leadership and coaching to the benefits team, promoting a culture of service, excellence, and continuous improvement

  • Monitor benefits trends and benchmarking data to make data-informed recommendations

  • Act as a trusted advisor to HR and business leaders on total rewards topics

  • Collaborate with internal teams on DEIB-related wellness initiatives


What We're Looking For:

  • Bachelor's degree in HR, Business Administration, or related field (Master's or certifications like CEBS, SPHR, or SHRM-SCP preferred)

  • At least 10 years of experience in benefits or total rewards leadership

  • Deep knowledge of health & welfare benefits, 401(k) administration, wellness programming, and regulatory requirements

  • Strong leadership and project management skills, with a hands-on approach

  • Excellent analytical and communication abilities

  • Proven ability to drive process improvements and deliver an exceptional employee experience

  • Experience managing large vendor contracts and relationships

  • High proficiency in HRIS platforms and benefits tools (Workday, ADP, etc.)
