We are seeking a skilled and dynamic Underwriter to join our client in Pasadena.

Job Description:
As an Underwriter, you will play a critical role in evaluating commercial insurance applications for the Construction and Forest Products sectors. Your expertise will help us produce and underwrite new and renewal business from our assigned group of agencies accurately and efficiently. This position requires a deep understanding of statutory requirements, ISO, company and NCCI coverage forms, and commercial line reference materials.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Assess and determine the acceptability of commercial insurance applications, making informed decisions to accept, decline, or modify requests.
  • Evaluate, quote, and negotiate prices on new and renewal applications, ensuring compliance with statutory requirements and company guidelines.
  • Manage a portfolio of agencies, including prospecting for new agencies, growth and development, maximizing profit-sharing opportunities, and credit management.
  • Solicit new business and retain renewal business through effective presentations to agency and customer audiences.
  • Achieve profitable underwriting results, sales development, and customer service objectives within an assigned territory.
  • Formulate and achieve sales budgets, setting and meeting premium and loss ratio goals.
  • Maintain and enhance profitable business relationships with current and prospective customers through regular agency visits and reviews.
  • Make decisions within authority levels, seeking exceptions when supported by appropriate data.
  • Identify and address changes in customer operations or financial conditions.
  • Promote and market claims, risk control, and premium audit service plans to customers.
  • Stay informed of corporate, regulatory, and competitive changes in the lines of business written.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.


Qualifications:

  • Experience in field underwriting, particularly in Construction.
  • Expertise in underwriting new and renewal business, determining pricing, and understanding commercial lines policy forms and coverages.
  • Ability to analyze and manage exposures, developing action plans to manage risks and changes during a policy period.
  • Strong agency management skills, including growth and development, prospecting, appointment, and maximizing opportunities.
  • Proven external sales abilities, with a track record of cultivating new business and retaining current customers.
  • Valid Driver's License with an acceptable Motor Vehicle Report.
  • Salary Range: $75,000-$100,000, commensurate with experience.
