Job Description

We are seeking Maintenance Technicians for day, swing and overnight shifts for a client in the Food Industry in Hayward. These are full-time, direct hire roles. The ideal candidate will have experience working on manufacturing equipment, preferrably in a food industry environment. The candidate must be comfortable working in a cold, freezer setting.

Job Duties:

  • Perform scheduled preventative and predictive maintenance on equipment.
  • Support production by troubleshooting and repairing equipment failure including, but not limited to mechanical and electrical.
  • Inspects work to assure proper execution prior to startup.
  • Use gauges and test instruments to diagnose malfunctions and failures.
  • Fabricate and install new equipment for assigned projects.
  • Weld, repair, and fabricate parts and equipment.
  • Daily inspection of plant support equipment (compressors, pumps, etc.).
  • Daily inspection of process and packaging systems.
  • Capture and maintain information regarding equipment deficiencies to facilitate effective communications with facilities engineer and co-workers.
  • Assist in maintaining parts inventory; requisition equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Assist other maintenance or operations team members when required.
  • Maintain shop cleanliness.
  • Implement all safe work practices and programs including, but not limited to those that support: personnel safety, process safety, product safety, and environmental safety.
  • Emergency assistance (off-hours) may be required periodically.
  • Must be able to work with direct outside contractors from time to time.

Requirements:

  • Knowledge of accepted means and methods for the maintenance trade.
  • Strong mechanical aptitude.
  • Strong electrical aptitude.
  • Familiar with typical manufacturing & support systems:
  • Process & packaging.
  • Pneumatic, vacuum hydraulic, steam, water.
  • Refrigeration/HVAC.
  • Power, controls, lighting.
  • Read and understand electrical schematics and drawings.
  • Read and understand operation and maintenance manuals.
  • Understand how to use a computerized maintenance management system.
  • Use independent judgment to make decisions requiring the application of procedures and practices to specific work situations.
  • Ability to troubleshoot in time-efficient manner.
  • Ability to perform a breakdown analysis and determine root cause.
  • Use of hand and power tools.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Knowledge of occupational hazards and associated safety precautions
  • Maintain a competitive knowledge base through participation in:
  • Industry professional associations.
  • Continuing education.
  • Vendor training.
  • Travel across company sites may be requested from time to time; out of town travel may be necessary infrequently as well.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of maintenance experience within a manufacturing environment, preferably food, beverage or non-durable products.
  • Required to provide evidence of automotive insurance and safe motor vehicle driving record.
  • Required to attend first-aid training.
  • Required to be ERT (emergency response team) Commander level
  • Required to be certified in forklift driving.
  • Two-year technical degree highly preferred.
  • Hazmat certification highly preferred.
