Office, Administrative, Customer Service, Human Resources, and Manufacturing/Production
The R&D Manager plays a key role in leading research activities aimed at formulating new products and solutions, improving existing products, conducting lab tests, attending scale up trials and screening ingredients. This role will interact closely with various functions including; Sales, Marketing, Operations, Quality Assurance and Supply Chain as well as customers and suppliers. The role requires technical expertise in formulation, process optimization, completing specifications and supporting documentation and a passion for driving innovation in food decorating and coloring market.
RESPONSIBILITES
Develop formulations and bench top samples to meet customers' needs and drive innovation for internal initiatives to help meet business objectives.
Oversee multiple R&D projects simultaneously, from concept to commercialization, ensuring timelines, milestones, and deliverables are met.
* Lead formulation scale-up from bench-top to production.
* Maintain detailed documentation of all research projects.
* Plan and follow test protocols.
* Proactively investigate new ingredients and keep current with consumer trends and competitive products
* Improve products or match color, texture and flavor profiles while considering cost, label impact and manufacturing capabilities. * Develop technical specifications, formulation sheets and manufacturing parameters.
* Assist Sales with customer technical issues, applications and cross-functional teams regarding ingredients, formulation, and manufacturing issues.
Attend local trade shows, meet with suppliers to remain up-to-date with latest ingredient and process technologies.
* Perform all tasks assigned by supervisor, while following all company, safety, and quality policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS
B.S. or M.S. in Food Science, Food Engineering or related field with work experience.
Minimum 5 years of product development experience in the food manufacturing industry.
* Excellent project management skills, with the ability to prioritize tasks, meet deadlines, and manage resources effectively.
Strong technical expertise in formulating, ingredients, food chemistry and decorating industry.
Experience with formulating icings, piping gels, bakery mixes and food coloring solutions is strongly preferred.
* Understanding Code of Federal Regulations Title 21 (food) and knowledge of food safety regulations, quality assurance standards, and industry best practices.
* Creative problem-solving abilities and a passion for driving new product development.
